LaunchU 2017 Pitch Weekend begins Thursday, March 2nd, with a keynote address by Mr. Gerard Baker P’19, Editor-in-Chief of the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones, roles he assumed on January 1, 2013. Prior to his appointment, Baker served as the Journal‘s deputy editor-in-chief. He previously worked for the Financial Times, the BBC, and the Times of London. Baker started his working life as an analyst at the Bank of England and then as an economist in the city of London. He was educated at Corpus Christi College at Oxford University, where he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in philosophy, politics, and economics.

Mr. Baker will be speaking on “The Future of News” in the Dye Lecture Hall of Oberlin’s Science Center. Program begins at 4:45PM and is free and open to the public.

Pitch Day 2017 will be Saturday, March 4th. This is Oberlin’s fifth annual competition, held for the first time this year at the historic Apollo Theater. Doors open at 8:30AM. The competition will run from 9AM until 12PM. After a lunch break, feedback sessions with the competing ventures will be held on the second floor of Bibbins Hall from 1:30PM until 3:30PM. A reception will begin at 3:30PM in The Birenbaum Innovation and Performance Space, in the lower level of the new Hotel at Oberlin. The awards ceremony is expected to begin ca. 4:30PM. All Pitch Day events are free and open to the public.
