Evelyne C White
I graduated from Oberlin 2004 with a major in politics (and a couple “almost majors” including harp performance and environmental studies). I was a lucky member of the 1st class of Oberlin Business Scholars, which led me to explore career opportunities in finance. My first job out of Oberlin was at Bear Stearns in Investment Banking, followed by 5 years at The Riverside Company. In between I earned my MBA from Harvard Business School and interned for a VC-backed renewable energy startup. Last January I launched my first company, Bookalokal – a social dining platform that connects people through food. One year later, we’re a team of 5 working in NYC. It’s the most fun “job” I can imagine and I hope you all get to try out the site soon!
Born in Brussels in October 2012, Bookalokal is a community for social foodies to list, discover, and book unique culinary events around the world — online or from a mobile device. From home-cooked dinners and brunches to cooking classes, wine tastings and food tours, Bookalokal connects people to unique food experiences in over 20 countries. With outstanding customer service and a commitment to promoting our hosts, Bookalokal is the easiest way for culinary enthusiasts to share their passion for food, monetize their skills and connect with a global audience.
Guests range from travelers passing through town to newcomers and expats looking to meet locals and learn about a new city over a meal. Hosts range from people who love to cook and enjoy entertaining interesting people, to food bloggers and aspiring chefs who want to showcase their skills while covering the cost of their meals or earning extra money.
